What is Bookkeeping?
When you think of bookkeeping, you may assume it is knowing how much money is in your bank account but that is not it exactly. It is so much more than that. Bookkeeping is the accurate recording of day to day financial transactions based on accounting best practices so that financial statements can be prepared. Those financial statements can then be analyzed by you the business owner or an “accountant” to make informed decisions for your business.
So what is the difference then between a bookkeeper and an accountant? Glad you asked! Accounting is a broad term that encompasses all aspects of business financials. As bookkeepers, we zero in on the administrative side of your business’ financials while an accountant, oftentimes referred to as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), goes beyond that to specialize in tax preparation and financial analysis.
